CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - MARCH 2026

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during construction of this important project! Pipeline installation and major paving operations are complete. Slurry seal work is planned to begin week of March 23, 2026, with final striping anticipated week of March 30th. Crews will begin at Park Drive and Quartz Drive, and move north up Richardson Drive to Joeger Road. Signs will be placed at project areas to signify lane closure.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING SLURRY SEALING

Work will be done one lane at a time, leaving one lane open for traffic at all times, with flaggers in place.

Residents living on impacted streets should plan accordingly and park on alternate streets the day of slurry seal application. Residents are advised to drive slowly and use caution when walking, biking, or parking on recently treated streets.

  • Construction hours will typically be from 7AM – 6PM, Monday–Friday, with possible weekend work.

  • “No parking” signs will be in place prior to slurry seal application.

  • No on-street parking will be allowed during working hours, and driveway access may be impacted for up to four hours after slurry seal application.‍ ‍

  • Do not drive on fresh slurry seal for up to 4 hours after application.

  • Turn off automatic sprinklers the night before and the day of work.

  • Two-way traffic will be maintained.

  • During construction, the project team will closely monitor all aspects of the project.

  • Dust mitigation and environmental protection measures will be in place during construction.

  • Traffic controls will be in place near construction areas, with some anticipated traffic delays.

The schedule may change due to weather, material availability, or equipment issues.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Slurry seal is a protective surface treatment made of asphalt emulsion, aggregate, and water. After application, the surface must cure while the water evaporates.

  • Loose aggregate (small rocks) following slurry seal application is normal and expected. Drivers and residents may notice loose material immediately after work is completed. This will improve as the pavement cures and through scheduled street sweeping.

  • The contractor will perform multiple rounds of sweeping. If loose aggregate appears excessive, residents are encouraged to contact the project team to review the location and determine whether additional sweeping is needed.

  • Trash bins should be placed out as usual on scheduled pickup days. The contractor will coordinate as needed to maintain service.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The North Auburn Wastewater Pipeline, which is Phase I of the Highway 49 wastewater capacity improvement project, includes installation of a new wastewater pipeline (force main). The pipeline will connect existing infrastructure to the Placer County Regional Pump Station on Joeger Road in unincorporated western Placer County.

Construction is in two phases. Phase I began in early 2025 and will be completed in spring 2026. It includes installation of a 24-inch force main between Quartz Drive and the Placer County Regional Pump Station on Joeger Road. Phase II will include construction of a 16-inch force main between Edgewood Road and Quartz Drive, and will be scheduled at a later time.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Environmental documentation related to this project include the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration and Mitigation Monitoring & Reporting Program for the Highway 49 Wastewater Capacity Improvement project, of which North Auburn Wastewater Pipeline is part of. These documents outline mitigation measures that the contractor and project team must have in place at all times to ensure the health and safety of workers and the local community.
